A linguistic practice I'm trying to incorporate is to express appreciation for the person rather than their action. Catch myself thanking for a thing/action rather than the person who did or gathered the thing

My MIL, who is one of the most amazing Granmas you could imagine who lives in another state, has begun telling stories about her 20s and 30s. I've known her for 20 yrs now, so I guess I'm safe to open up to as she processes her life.

This week she shared stories of going to protests in the 1970s

Even held a sign an older lady gave her. She bent down and told her she was really proud of her for coming, total stranger just in it for the kids. I love Durham.

Been musing on the public health compact maps and it's really obvious to me that if there is some sort of schism NC becomes the southern most part of that group.

If we were to ask 'ally with SC, GA, AL, MS, TN or VA, MD' I can't see real people choosing to be the northern most area of that group.
