I agree that shenmue has a great deal of influence, but I wouldn't put it as the most influential game. Simply because there are games that have entier genres of games named after them. I'd personally have named rouge as the most influential due to having 2 genres named after it.
A lot of people think influential means "best" or "most popular".
I actually personally don't enjoy Shenmue much. That's not what influential means. Much of Shenmue's very early open world concepts can be seen in... pretty much everything. It massively influenced developers.

It hasn't been the easiest of months but that doesn't mean I'm not working on anything.
The State of the Past Month
I began this project with optimism and hope. I managed to get a promotion at work, I began this blog and my personal relationships had never been stronger. However with the following promotion came a whole host of new problems. The management team decided that it would be best for me to learn my new role, one that is heavily dependent on knowing where I work, at a completely different site.

Why did I start a blog?
A lot of my attempts at writing end up sat around gathering dust in old books or taking up space on google docs. So this is my answer to that problem. I am going to be posting to this blog a multitude of things. Thoughts on video games/books/movies, short stories that normally never see the light of day, general thoughts on my personal journey to navigate life.

I've done the exact same thing 😭 the world my characters live in grows but I need to get back to the original characters that drew me to keep the world alive.
A full two decades later, I still have it printed out and have more or less continuously developed that world. That character, Nathaniel, still lives on, but his story isn't quite on the WIP schedule yet. But I haven't forgotten him, or that city
