An important new development at NCISH. We are resuming detailed data collection into patient homicide. This programme will expand on the national homicide inquiry that ended in 2018. We plan to explore new questions, additional methodologies & work closely with affected families.

Our next NCISH report on suicide by mental health patients will be published in Feb.

It covers 2013-23, when there were over 18,000 suicides by people under MH care in UK.

Every report has specialist themes, this time: crisis teams, >75s & patients with anxiety disorder.

Our website presents the most up-to-date suicide data, including all data we currently hold for deaths that occurred between 2012 and 2024 in the UK and Jersey. This will be updated on a quarterly basis as more data becomes available.

Our ’10 ways to improve safety’ continue to reflect the evidence we have collected over >20 years on the features of clinical services that are associated with lower patient suicide rates. These include safer wards, personalised risk management and low staff turnover.

Our Annual Report 2025 provides findings related to people who died by suicide between 2012-2022 across the UK & Jersey. We also present findings on the number of people under #MentalHealth care who have been convicted of homicide, & those in the general population in the UK.
