In a real life case of "social media cooks your brain" I am helping a family member coming from Germany look at condos and can't stop complaining bitterly about how staircase requirements mean they only get windows on one side and elevators are too expensive to justify in most buildings.

How to lose friends and alienate people, development edition.

Also, there are only a handful of locations in Dallas that could support the incredible rents you'd need for a 25-story building. This is not one of them.
The Winners Assembly on MLK went to the plan commission last month to push for a 25-story luxury high-rise. CPC killed the proposal with ruthless efficiency. A church leader wanted to discuss what happens next -- and how this whole thing went so terribly wrong.

really great piece in Bloomberg about rail travel in Texas that I'm jealous I didn't write www.bloomberg.com/news/feature...
Where Train Dreams Meet Reality in Texas
Dallas and Houston are 250 miles apart. But if you want to take a train between them, prepare for a 23-hour odyssey that says a lot about where US passenger rail is heading.

Doc said I should lose some weight. He had a coupon for a free month of a GLP-1 I could try. This stuff is wild.

You eat a soup and salad for lunch and your body reacts like you just had a thanksgiving feast. This is 2 weeks into a starter dose, can't imagine what a full dose is like?

"A thorough assessment of whether to move City Hall into existing commercial office space also would send a powerful signal that Dallas is thinking differently and acting decisively," said business leaders and developers.

This reflects a fundamental misunderstanding of the role of government. 🧵

A reminder that sports teams and especially their owners do not love you or your city. They simply follow the money, which they do indeed love.
Three days ago, the Dallas City Council voted on a resolution that could include the sale and redevelopment of the City Hall site downtown.

On Monday, this is on the agenda for the council's Ad Hoc Committee on Professional Sports Recruitment and Retention meeting.

Let the speculation commence!

If you feel like I spend a lot of time arguing against Dallas' public transportation projects it's because we only do dumb public transportation projects.
Dallas council can't decide between two alignments DFW-FTW HSR. One of them skips every possible downtown connection but avoids Hunt's vaporware development while the other makes these connections.

Both of these options are nonsense because the DFW-ARL-FTW HSR is nonsense.

Austin folks, we need to make sure this doesn’t slip away from us when the 2027 code cycle rolls around

I will be periodically banging this drum and Austin WILL be getting 8-story single-stair 😤
When Austin legalized 5 stories, Council passed a resolution directing staff to bring back recommendations for allowing single-stair in all midrise buildings (75’ habitable floor) by 2027

That’s really only 7 stories (8 if you squish) but I think it’s a pretty persuasive argument for decisionmakers
