Adding in- Competition is more intense than ever. You could have the PERFECT EVERYTHING and still not nail a conslot every season. Its a crazy world. It SUCKS because I adore artists and vendors in our community above all else. Everyone should be able to do what they love. But reality is cruel.

Don’t know who needs to hear this but stop quitting your job to do artist alley and conventions, there are no benefits or health insurance and it is so unpredictable and the competition is worse than trying to get into Harvard lol

This is important, so I figured it was worth posting here too for those not in the @projectxero.bsky.social Discord 💙
For 2026, I will be taking a break from work on Project Xero. This has been a long time coming, but I've hit a point where I just can't realistically lead and manage Project Xero right now. I am recognizing the amount of burnout I am facing is unsustainable and unhealthy and I need a break to decompress, heal, & relearn how to create artwork. I started Project Xero in 2021 during pandemic lockdown. I was stuck in my apartment all the time. I couldn't see friends & family, I was very isolated, lonely, & had more free time. This is no longer the case, as I've become very busy with external jobs, vending at conventions, family stuff, more bills & expenses, and just generally navigating the world as a mid-30s adult. These past 2 years, its become very hard for me to dedicate enough time to Xeros, and I know the community has struggled & waned because of it. The truth is that I have been struggling since I started Project Xero; sacrificing my time, social life, & financial opportunities to start it and keep it going. While some of my problems can be blamed on the current State of the World™, much of it is because of the amount of time I spend working on or stressing out about Xeros at my own detriment. I started Project Xero to have a fun thing to do during a time of isolation & to support an unemployed partner, but my life has changed significantly since. I've also become very very burnt out on drawing, to the point where it has become difficult for me to draw anything at all, even things I really like drawing or am excited about. I now struggle to draw & design new Xeros, when it used to be so easy for me. I feel very rusty & uncertain with something that is my full-time employment, which is very scary for me. I depend on my abilities for all of my income. I need to find a way to create, improve, & enjoy drawing again, and I don't think I will be able to get the break to rest & heal if I continue working on Project Xero the way I have been for these past 5 years. After discussing my feelings with the staff team and going over options, we have decided that my co-owner and lead admin, Frouzon, will be taking over as director. The rest of the team is also stepping up to fill needed roles and rejuvenate the website, something that was sorely needed, but I was unable to make happen before. The team has really exciting things planned for this year, and we trialed by having them take over all of December's events such as the Secret Santa, DTE, & Xingo. They did a wonderful job planning all of that without my intervention. They also have some exciting website updates that they have done all on their own! Em is not overhauling Project Xero with his own interpretation, he is very much still very much playing to the 'guide book' I have set & is keeping it in line with my vision. Most of the planned future events and updates are something I very much had a hand in making. Please stick around and keep supporting and enjoying Xeros, I think 2026 is going to be a really good year for it. Please understand that I am not abandoning Xeros. It makes me really, really sad to have to leave. I worked so hard to bring it to life and keep it going, but I've reached the end of my ability to direct it. I hope to eventually come back in a position where I can enjoy this wonderful thing I've made, make a few new Xero designs, & maybe I can even do some prompts for the first time! I will be leaving the server, at least for a while. I need to take a serious break and I know I won't let myself unless I truly remove myself from the situation. I hope you'll all wish me luck for my healing journey ahead and maybe keep up with me on social media. Thank you all so, so incredibly much for everything over the past 5 years. I sometimes can't even believe I've made something like this. I'm glad my team is so amazing, I know they'll do great things with my passion project, my baby, Project Xero.
