I contributed a chapter titled "Not Afraid to Show a Savage Face" about the evolution of Andy Cohen's narrative voice from the start of Silkworm through a palpable change in the Touch & Go years. It took a lot of restraint not to spill the beans on this book!
Now available: Lay it Down In Full View: Collected Writings On Silkworm And Their Music.

The 14 essays in this landmark 416 page tome adopt a range of approaches from memoir and historiography to music criticism.

Every time there’s a commercial with a peppy earworm of a song—usually it’s a prescription medicine, but this time it was Daisy Sour Cream—I ask my wife “Do you want this song on your phone?”

Me: “There’s a Buffalo Bills-specific Hallmark Christmas romance?”
Wife: “Does the podcast know about it?”
Me: “I’m sure @itschristmastown.bsky.social is aware of it.”

But I am curious if they’ve ranked the pro franchises for Hallmark-adaptability (with the Vancouver Canucks getting home ice.)

I just put on Johnnie To’s Mad Detective and it went from 0 to Reservoir Dogs Ear Mutilation in like three minutes.

There's now a Stars of the Lid Forever site with nineteen live recordings, including their show at Brooklyn's Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help from 12/17/2013. Do I recommend driving back to Boston after an ambient classical show? No, I do not. But that was easily a top-five concert for me.

Wow that’s sick how you’ll be able to see everyone who won’t get properly compensated when you stream a song

I bet there’s going to be an incredible end-credits rap for Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles, sharply summing up the plot

Had the thoroughly unpleasant experience of getting tailgated by a Cybertruck, it was like being stalked by a refrigerator. I chuckled when we got to a red light and I saw that the driver was holding his phone and hollering into it, which is both illegal in this state and deafening to the other end.

Caroline 2 is a 2025 favorite and they released a deluxe edition with demos (which Rough Trade put on a 12"). The final album is an exciting midpoint between the genesis of an idea and its warped final possibilities. The demos are pure clay: hummed vocals, rehearsal room noise, in-progress guitars.
