Was the economy really good in Trump's first term? If you watched/listened to the mainstream media, you would think it was a great economy & Trump media surrogates went out of their way to promote even mediocre economic news as amazing & were rarely challenged by the media.

Funding gaps where no workers were laid off/furloughed are different than shutdowns where agencies are shut down and non-essential services are stopped or greatly curtailed.

There was one shutdown under Carter - in 1980 - and it lasted for one day. And, that was only the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) - not the entire government.
