A new starting page has been created for the HF+ propagation map. Like the VHF page released earlier, it explains the purpose of the site and explains what it does. A new features allows users to set the perspective by providing a callsign.

The VHF propagation map now has a descriptive starting page. It offers several ways to enter the map and more details about the site.

Australia has so much electricity from solar power that it is going to start offering free electricity to everyone for at least three hours during the day as the wholesale price of power goes negative

Australia has so much solar that it's offering everyone free electricity
Australia's extensive solar power penetration makes so much energy that the government wants to offer free electricity at peak hours.

The propagation maps recently added a heart icon for donations that appears when the funding level falls below 100%. The heart becomes more red as the funding level falls.

When the level is below 50% a donation dialog will pop up about once a day for each user.

ANNOUNCING: The VHF propagation map has more options for showing hop details. Upon selecting a station's footprint a "details" menu pops up offering "single", "multiple", or "connected" views. 1/3

There are now two ways to bookmark the HF+ propagation map:

By band: hf.dxview.org/band/14 — set the band to the given MHz. Valid band numbers are 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 14, 18, 21, 24, 28, and 50.

By location (grid square):

An update to the VHF propagation map has been uploaded. It has a number of fixes including better representation of activity that is adjacent to the international dateline, particularly for New Zealand.

Happening now: I think this is legitimate propagation from Wichita to northern Mississippi. Can anyone on the ground confirm?

Enhancements for mobile devices have been completed for the HF propagation map.

Most visitors to the HF map are using a phone or tablet. The experience on phones and tablets is much improved now.

The changes will be activated the next time you open or refresh the site.

The VHF propagation map is working much better for mobile devices now. A significant number of visitors use mobile or tablet devices and this will greatly improve their experience.

Let me know if something should be working better!

ANNOUNCEMENT: the VHF propagation map is being optimized for tablets and mobile devices. It is working much better for the smaller screens.

There are a few differences between mouse- and touch-based interaction:

The VHF propagation map will start showing more activity. A coding error when translating from Rails to Rust caused some activity to be filtered inappropriately.

Today some corrections and enhancements were applied to the VHF propagation map.

The changes improve the interaction as the pointer is moved over active stations. A white outline adds contrast to the footprint and when selected the paths are clearly revealed.

Of all the the lighthouses on the air this past weekend, 7S0SFJ in Sweden is one of the unique ones. The station is on the "Finngrundet," a lightship that was in service from 1903 to 1969.

Here is an unexpected mid-ocean HF propagation data point. KQ6RS reports this WSPR equipped buoy drifting in the North Atlantic is a high school project. During your station's off time, set up WSPR on 20m to see if it picks up the 0.01W signal!

VY0ERC is another far-north amateur operation on the HF propagation map. The club station is at the Eureka Weather Station on Ellesmere Island in Nunavut (Canada). Listen for them on FT8.

Have you ever wondered why the HF map has propagation from the far north? Polarstern is a German polar research vessel. It is active as DP0POL using WSPR on 7, 10, 14, and 18 MHz. Today it is above 84º N latitude.

The HF propagation predictions charts are working better after correcting errors introduced in the conversion to Rust.

The chart shows hours of the day going from left to right, starting at 0000Z (UTC). The red vertical bar is the current time.

Color coding shows SSB, CW, FT8 or WSPR.

Drawing areas of propagation that cross the 180th meridian (International Date Line) on the HF map have always been a mathematical challenge. A bit ago an update was uploaded that finally gets it right (I think). Errors had been showing up particularly on 20 meters.
