This beautiful 213.8 ct elbaite tourmaline has been in our Gem & Mineral Collection since 1966, purchased from the Martin L. Ehrmann Co., from whom we acquired numerous specimens over the years.

On this day, 112 years ago, Exposition Park and the new museum—then called the Los Angeles County Museum of History, Science, and Art—officially opened to the public. A two-week civic celebration ensued, dovetailing with the opening of the Owens River Aqueduct.

When I lived in LA, I visited @nhm.org quite regularly. There's a 'T. rex growth series' display including specimens representing juvenile, subadult, and adult T. rex 🦖. I wonder how this interpretation would be affected by recent 'revival' of Nanotyrannus... 🧵
