I'm going to start collecting threads on HK protest art in one place. Easier to walk down memory lane, even if they be filled with tears and teargas.

Having these in many places mean the images are harder to erase. And harder to forget.
Folks often forget the fight for democracy in HK isn’t a “Beijing vs us” thing in matters of human rights - I mean that matters too - but also the fight for local representation so that problems like these don’t get swept under the rug
This 2024 post from the DAB’s Peggy Wong is quickly becoming infamous.

In it, the pro-Beijing district councillor dismisses fire safety concerns about the Wang Fuk work as malicious rumours misleading the public, and accuses the Democratic Party of “provocatively live-streaming “ from the scene.

An escalating spat between Japan and China over remarks about Taiwan by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is threatening to derail what was set to be a breakout year for anime in the world’s second-largest cinema market. Read more: bloom.bg/3MmAQMK

I find myself remembering how Chris Tang once said that any art can potentially be clandestine "soft resistance" if the govt thinks it could be interpreted that way.
In case you missed it, government authorities banned the selling of T-shirts with an image showing the hand sign for "LGBT+" in HK Sign language for no apparent reason at the Pride Event last Sunday.

Unclear whether the HK government is scared of LGBT+ or 5DN1L but it’s funny either way how they freak out over a few fingers

The incident of this type that sticks out in my mind are the several times in - I wanna say Hangzhou or Nanjing (maybe both) - that some park/mall rent-a-cops made a huge stink and detained groups of 20-sthing cosplayers for "Dressing Japanese."

They were wearing hanfu.

I have a diaspora friend who has a last name that ‘works’ in both Cantonese and Mando, except the actual character is different. When he was trying to go through Beijing airport some years ago, he was told his surname is wrong and, being Chinese, he should change it.
It's been going in the same "weird hyper nationalist direction" for years and years. This is a shocking incident, but at the same time it's really nothing new. Every now and again, something insane at this level will occur.

‘Rush Hour 4’ is officially in the works.

This comes after Donald Trump personally requested Paramount to revive the franchise.
