#311 - Qing 42: Charting the Collision Course

The 19th century is pretty rough on Qing China. We're going to need to set things up a bit before we start knocking the dominoes down...

What many would-be posters fail to realize is that, like any garden, the soil of growth must rest atop & subsist upon an sublayer of decay & entropy. It is not to be swept away, but used as the manure that it is.
We need to do everything we can to encourage posts like this on bluesky. Terrible food opinions from big name sportswriters are genuinely the lifeblood of any social media app
Apple pie is bad. This is not really debatable. So is key lime pie, while we’re on the topic. Pecan pie is the 🐐 tho.

The realest thing I heard today was that Marjorie Taylor Green timed her "retirement" to fall just after her Congressional pension kicks in...

Welfare Queens are real & they are bottle-blonde & named Marjorie.

The X mobile app has gotten to the point that it automatically puts me onto the “For You” tab by default upon opening, every single time. It will no longer “stay stuck” to the “Following” tab.

As insidious as it is insufferable.

It'd impossible for me to contain how giddy I am that I get to use a section of the PRC's "State Religious Affairs Bureau Order No. 5" (2007) as one of the episode intro quotes this week... right alongside 17th century travel journal entries...

Sir, the test results are back, and... you may want to sit down for this... it's not good news. I'm afraid that the Idaho that showed up on the scan appears to be trying to metastasize...
They’re so optimistic about what they can accomplish lmao

Why stop at just cabbages? Why, for a mere pittance, this holiday season your family can look forward to dining on the finest turnip and crow feast they've ever sucked the marrow from! Your hovel will be the envy of the entire neighborhood!
Cabbage is affordable, delicious, and astoundingly versatile, @giladedelman.bsky.social writes. The underrated crucifer “is fit for a king”:

The systemic inability of the modern *NEWS MEDIA* to be able to even say that the emperor is striding though the town square butt-naked with his weewee flapping in the breeze - since His Majesty will be quite put out - is as much a damning indictment of the media itself, as anything else
NEWS --> BBC confirms to me that they did edit a line out of historian @rutgerbregman.com's speech. It called Trump "the most openly corrupt president in US history."

BBC also confirms this was done on the advice of lawyers. So Trump's threats worked.

Trump’s Fury at BBC Gets Unnerving Results with Pro-MAGA Edit Stunner
First, British Broadcasting Corporation execs resigned after Trump complained about a segment. Now the BBC edited out a line from a historian that was critical of Trump. Where does this end?

Whenever I'd go to a Chinese restaurant and talk to the waitress about the menu, they'd always recommend the same dish every time: "MAIWANLE," they called it. Over and over, "MAIWANLE" "MAIWANLE."

But no matter how I asked, they never once let me taste it.

It must've really been something special.

This is a failure of either

1) ordering
or
2) knowing the size of the gyoza/jiaozi in advance... cuz some are minismall, but *SOME* are meals unto themselves

... either way, skill issue. Order more dumplings.
my problem with gyoza is that they normally come in an order of about 6, but what I really need is 100 of them

It is rather incredible that the US has managed to take the most vibrant and multi-faceted economy in world history & hopelessly beach it on the Triune shipbreaker-sandbars of moronic tariffs, crypto-ponzi schemes, & the AI-bubble.

Literally run by The World's Stupidest Mouthbreathing Idiots.
One explanation for economic populism in the US is the recurring cycle of bubbles and bailouts that happens without any democratic input

[Lindsey Halligan, Esq.]: "Oh yeah, Boss, it's all great! I just got the judge to drop all charges & dismiss the case just like you wanted, Boss!"

[TRUMP]: "wait wut."

Sean, I am here on my own dime at the ass-crack of morning, paying extra for my fucking carry-on, and getting reamed by upcharges for every bottle of water I have to re-buy after TSA x-rays my colon.

I will wear whatever the fuck I want, suit-boy.
Sean Duffy: "Dressing with respect -- whether it's a pair of jeans and a decent shirt, I would encourage people to maybe dress a little better which encourages us to maybe behave a little better. Let's try not to wear slippers and pajamas as we come to the airport."
