And one of the industries which, relying entirely on freelance workers, but requiring public audience spaces, was fucked over completely by the pandemic, without mercy or assistance, but survived, on its knees so it can now get another kick in the teeth from these soulless twats.
coreybrotherson.bsky.social
Hey kids!

Remember when the pandemic struck and eventually the (Tory) government told everyone to stay at home, and the arts and entertainment industries were one of the few things keeping everyone from pulling our own eyes out of our skulls from abject fear and boredom?

Remember that?

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

Comic titled "Rage at the Ragged" by Jen Sorensen. It critiques societal hostility to homeless people, highlighting a Fox News host's extreme comment. Contrast shown through an uncaring response to heart attacks. Ends with a suggestion to focus on systemic issues like housing and healthcare. Tone is satirical and critical.

Javier Milei had to beg a bail-out and already needs another. Argentina's economy is in a tailspin. Gov't bonds and peso in freefall. People starving, throwing rocks at him.

Farage last year: "He's amazing. It's Thatcherism on steroids. Cutting and slashing expenditure. That's leadership."

SHARE!

Yes, indeed. I wanted to write you a more considered response:
This says, “To be clear, I think using inflammatory language the way he does is almost an irrelevancy to him, in the same way that “free speech” absolutists feel like they can say what they want and not be held accountable for any consequences. I agree, he knows exactly what he’s doing.

His racism is the creeping, class and status-based kind, appealing to the lowest and most extreme of human social impulses, but clothed in this broad, populist language that disguises his everyday othering as “honest debate.” There’s no high social purpose here.

His racism is a means to an end, an othering of a political sort that is just a motor to get him where he wants to go. He is an utterly divisive, loathsome and cynical individual.”

Wonderful piece - @stephenkb.bsky.social clocks one banger, but my fave: "[Jenrick] ... did at least do better than the shadow home Secretary Chris Philp, who delivered a series of jokes to a hall so empty and unenthused that he gave a new meaning to “assisted dying”." Chapeau @roberthutton.co.uk

I’m not even sure Robert Jenrick is racist, but he’s indicated many times that he’ll say and do anything if he thinks it’s a path to power. He’s elitist, he’s dangerous, he’s utterly cynical and 100% unsuitable for *any* position of governance.

If you are in USA or Canada, please ask for This Slavery in your local independent bookstore or public library! And if you see it in the wild, please share photos with us!

Publication date for North America is this Tuesday, and it’s gone down well in the month it’s been out in Britain & Ireland.
A book cover. The text reads ETHEL CARNIE HOLDSWORTH’S THIS SLAVERY, a graphic novel by Scarlett & Sophie Rickard. The full page illustration shows two women standing back to back in a steep terraced street at sunset. The blonde woman holds a violin, the dark haired woman wears a man’s coat. A young man looks at them from an upstairs window on the left, and on the right there is a perky white and brown dog. In the distance the factory chimneys smoke. It’s all very ‘mills & doom’

So to summarise, this is a white politician blaming a black journalist for the racism he is now actively helping to promote, after receiving the full endorsement of his own party leader
bestforbritain.org
Wow. Robert Jenrick doubles down by branding a black journalist's questions "ridiculous" and saying that the problem is not his comments, but "journalists like you who pop up and try to knock me down", adding that "this is the reason why terrorist attacks happen". ~AA

I agree with every word Zelda Williams says. And this at the end from OpenAI makes me want to go full Ned Ludd. Creators can’t have a blanket opt-out on copyright infringement of their work and have to fill out a form appealing to OpenAI’s mercy every time? Fuck off into the sun
OpenAI told the Guardian that content owners can flag copyright infringement using a “copyright disputes form” but that individual artists or studios cannot have a blanket opt-out. Varun Shetty, OpenAI’s head of media partnerships, said: “We’ll work with rights holders to block characters from Sora at their request and respond to takedown requests.”
