If you’re a billionaire why are you paying professionals money to make people believe you are good at a videogame? How the fuck did that seem like a good idea? Take a hundred mil and buy the rights to Thief and Deus Ex and make sequels, you can do that, have a fucking dream dumdum create something

Oh! Oh wow. I wonder if NetEase will issue a statement amending/correcting anything Suda said in the interview. I’d be shocked, albeit impressed, if it truly is a blanket ban (e.g., no coding assists, etc.)

Bumping this up one last time! Here's 10,000 words of ad-free, just-for-the-love-of-the-thing writing about games and what they meant to us in 2025. I hope it leaves you inspired to check out a new-to-you game or, at the very least, invites you to reassess a perspective you hold.

This is a very important read, both because it captures a crucial moment in our history very well and because it features what’s gotta be the absolute best ethical disclosure in journalism history. (I’m not gonna spoil it — it’s a gift link; you can read it yourself!)
ICE tear gassed a bunch of children on Saturday. This was a massive escalation of force. They were shooting tear gas at the back of the crowd, it took these unmasked people maybe 3-5 minutes in the cloud of tear gas to escape in without trampling. www.theverge.com/policy/87278...

I made a list of things I wanted to do today and, as much as it frustrates me to admit this, it actually helped.

It's hard to overstate how ell-organized the portland march that got gassed was... organizers made the crowd promise to be peaceful, said the march would slow in front of the ICE building but not stop, that we would stick to one chant (ICE Out). They did absolutely everything right and got gassed.

Just experienced the most intense tear gassing of my life by federal officers outside the ICE facility in Portland where marchers gathered. There was no fast exit as they indiscriminately threw loads of gas and flash bangs. Children were in the crowd screaming. @oregoncapitalchronicle.com

I just got tear gassed along with thousands of union members, many of whom had their families with them. Federal agents at the ICE facility tear gassed children. We must abolish ICE, DHS, and we must have prosecutions. I expect to see enforcement of our city code prohibiting the use of tear gas.

I can’t stress this enough. The state of 4th Amendment law is that the cops can’t force you to type in a passcode but they can force you to swipe your finger or present your face. Never stop using passcodes/passwords to unlock your devices. And consider additional code to unlock Signal.
The FBI was able to access Washington Post reporter Hannah Natanson's Signal messages because she used Signal on her work laptop. The laptop accepted Touch ID for authentication, meaning the agents were allowed to require her to unlock it. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

I want to play way more games than I have found time for in recent years. I feel like I’m missing some really important developments, context, inspiration, etc. I have to confess I feel very sheepish saying this — what a selfish thing! How indulgent! — and I guess I need to ask that voice to chill.

Bumping this again! There's a wide, unusual mix of games in this year's list, so I hope you'll take a look. I'm still getting whatever the writer's equivalent of sea legs is back under me, but I'm pretty happy with what I wrote about Baby Steps.

If you're reading this, I am sincerely asking you to bombard your senator's phone lines tomorrow to urge them to pursue the defunding and abolition of ICE. Nominal reforms will achieve nothing when DHS has shown an overt and gleeful willingness to ignore the law while brutalizing our neighbors.
“An administration official gave away the game to Punchbowl News, admitting that these “de-escalatory measures” are about placating Senate Democrats so they don’t seize this moment to demand restrictions on ICE as part of any government funding package.”

Donald Trump Is Frightened
Trump wants to appear eager to minimize out-of-control clashes between government militias and protesters. But he doesn’t want to stop the things causing those clashes in the first place.

Thinking a lot about the phrase "this is not who we are," that well-trod empty platitude we often hear from those in power whenever something outrageous happens. It's so self-evidently false; either "we" is all of us, or it is not. And if it's not, then who's left out, why, and by whose authority?
