AI imagery is the equivalent of Plato’s prisoner being bored of sunlight, clambering down into a cave, shackling himself to a rock to watch shadows cast by firelight and forgetting that the world above exists.
this field biologist does a great job highlighting the insidiousness of AI editing

these one-click AI edit buttons are incredibly appealing to many photographers, amateurs and professionals alike, and are framed as innocuous

this is worth sharing and educating people about

its genuinely so fucking cool to hear that Last of Us director had the foresight to see the stagnation doing more of the same would lead to and was like "nah fuck this I want to keep making new interesting things"

this rules and his new game looks rad as hell store.steampowered.com/app/3041680/...

Think it's worth noting because it apparently hasn't been mentioned outside of this tweet, but Fate of the Old Republic is an action RPG, apparently?

All video games should be sequels to Lego Island. The Brickster comes back every time to wreak havoc. Bill Ding is constantly telling you how to make shit. And we can finally solve the mystery of whether The Infomaniac has wings or sideburns on the side of his face

I think art should exist in all sorts of gnarly, upsetting forms. But damn game trailers are getting pretty comfortable with just dropping a bunch of extremely graphic violence in your lap without any heads up, huh

Except for one end of year wrapup I’m done with freelance for this year. A lot of my 2025 writing was paywalled/ physical outlets/ not out yet. But my favorites of the year are:

House Games: unwinnable.com/2025/12/02/b...

Misericorde 2 review: unwinnable.com/2025/02/28/m...

and, topically:
Videogames Are Mainstream. What Will Make Them Feel Like It? - Unwinnable
About half the people in the world play videogames of some kind, but coverage of them outside specialized outlets is almost nowhere.

mostly today's Disney news feels like the corporation is continuing its years-long strategy of firing both barrels directly at its own feet. any quality they've produced in the last decade was an accidental byproduct

I'm told House Dems on the Appropriations Committee are holding a secret vote *this* afternoon on whether to reinstate Cuellar. If you've got a rep who is on the committee, a quick call would do some good.
After getting pardoned by Trump, does reinstating a corrupt Democrat into a position of power help the Dem brand? Does it make it easier for us to convince Americans to reject this corrupt regime? Does it make it more likely for us to defeat the Republicans? punchbowl.news/article/hous...
Cuellar to get his Approps post back
House Democrats are set to restore Rep. Henry Cuellar’s (D-Texas) post as the party’s top lawmaker on a key Appropriations subcommittee.
