JFC. Ron DeHaas, founder of the Christian antiporn app Covenant Eyes, has stepped down from NCOSE after his 38-year old son was charged with sexual abuse of a child.

Covenant Eyes is the app used by House Speaker Mike Johnson and his son to monitor each other's internet behavior.

The “Anticorruption of Public Morals Act” would criminalize visual, audio, or written depictions of “sex acts,” with language broad enough to ban distribution of When Harry Met Sally & romance novels .. and that's not even the worst of it 🧵

Michigan anti-porn would criminalize ASMR, written erotica, and even nonsexual depictions of trans people

I will say I might hide my identity if I was now claiming that "VPN downloads don't matter" because "we really didn't care about minors who were purposefully seeking it out."

If that's an official Ofcom position, it's certainly the first I'm hearing of it.

Another Ofcom employee rejected the argument that soaring VPN downloads meant the legislation had failed, arguing that the legislation was primarily aimed at preventing children from accidentally stumbling over pornographic material (rather than preventing those who were deliberating seeking out pornography from finding it).

Rather than shaming those who choose connection with a sex worker or "casual" sex, I would love to see it valued as part of a solution to connect youth.
If it is *causing* avoidance, and there is no evidence it is, that is a different conversation.

While I agree with concerns about a loneliness epidemic and need to connect young men, demonizing non-marital sex is not supported by evidence. Even shared genital stroking induced feelings of connection, esp in those unpartnered.

Men are tending to *slow* their reaction time to the persistent vigilance task after O (n=25, despite outliers).

We also had a ~5000 word complaint demanding the retraction of our paper for purely political reasons. It also was filled with false and defamatory claims.
This is just the latest way to attack scientists.
