My lab's been attacked by an anti-wind group and their lawyers. They threatened the science funding of my whole university, to shut me and my undergraduate research assistants up.

NYT just covered it. 1/n

All that misinformation DOES have an impact.

And it's leading us to terrible energy policy.

When the power went out in Spain this spring, many people immediately pointed the finger at the country's solar and wind power as the cause.

That wasn't the trigger, but a new survey finds that all that misinformation?

It had an impact.

When millions lost power in Spain and Portugal this spring, some were quick to blame too much solar and wind power. That wasn't the cause, but the misinformation had an impact.

Would sure be great if any aspiring scholar on the immensely important topic of climate obstruction would study the 193 (!) submissions to the Australian Select Committee on Information Integrity on Climate Change and Energy. Many from lobby groups ...

Mike Interesting that the neutrality policy was at least part of what led you to leave administration and get back to faculty role. That has not been discussed here when such was voted on last year. Sad you’d have to give up advocating for human survival to be a higher Ed administrator

This makes a ton of sense. Biking is a sensory explosion, your mind is super busy. Was biking all over NYC last week for Climate Week, and man was my brain lighting up.
timmonsroberts.bsky.social
Seriously, I would have paid for half a plane ticket for a Rohingya to fly to NYC. This is just wrong. They can't be forgotten.

Now there's a "doomism" of fatalistic acceptance that we're too late and it's just "too hard." We cannot afford that. It's the death throes of the largest industry in human history. Without the story of intentional obstruction, this piece is true but only as far as it goes. Sad. 4/4

The efforts at preventing or undermining the collective pro-climate efforts DWW laments the loss of have been sophisticated, usually coordinated, and sadly effective. They appeal to, and build, people's self interests and short-termism.
