sometimes when i mention that painful mutilations are standard practice of animal farming, non-vegans reply that no, bc suffering would "lower the quality of the meat" and therefore there's no suffering..

exactly. being vegan is just neutral, not causing needless deliberate harm. i think saying one "saves" animals by eating plant-based is misleading and reinforces the notion that hurting animals is a norm and necessity. i mean the only one one would be "saving" them from is oneself.

sadly, it didn't end well, bc the cows were captured and returned to their animal-farmer, to continue suffering while being exploited to produce milk, their babies taken and killed, and will themselves later be killed when no longer profitable.
