The antidote to authoritarianism is a robust civil society.

The US has an abundance of independent organizations but, like all autocrats, Trump will try to shut many of them down.

He's already attacking universities, law firms & nonprofits.

We must defend independent centers of social power.

But the real damage is done away from the cameras, as unions, businesses, agencies, security forces and other institutions withdraw their support & destroy the dictator's power.
