Lots of great new OA 🦇 research 📄 published recently that provide valuable insights into different aspects of bat responses to natural and man-made elements of the #environment. Whilst these may not seem particularly "exciting" they provide crucial evidence to aid bat conservation.

What’s in the *bird* box? 🪺 🐦

A colony of Daubenton’s #bats! 🦇

They don’t read the labels! Lots of bats using “bird” boxes.

Popped lid back on & left in peace. Monitoring under (bird & bat) licences.

Massive influx of Natterer’s bats at valley level marks the official start of hibernation season (last week they were still swarming). And the cherry on top was the return of Z0266, a bat ringed as an adult in 2005. That makes four 21+ year old 🦇 still turning up ( @johnaltringham.bsky.social )

A group of bats can be called a colony, a cauldron, or even a cloud. But with over 1,500 bat species worldwide (and 18 here in the UK!), we think it’s time to get a little more imaginative.

Surely our brilliant bats deserve names as unique as they are. Join our campaign and help us #NameThatBat .
