The hurdle now is for white moderate liberals to agree that every U.S. president (yes, even the ones they liked) has been a war criminal. And that reform isn’t possible—the system must be re-made for the people. And that the new institutions have to be built to resist the stupid and lawless.

Dude now has a second ex-wife and is on the sex offender registry for life. And these people are still making excuses for him *because of how difficult it would be to confront their own life choices* in order to decide to ditch him. Or something. I don’t understand them. I cut them out and moved on.

All *our* friends, I mean. His and mine. They didn’t want to hear me because it would be *incredibly inconvenient for their worldviews* if what I said about him were true. These folks were lawyers, and a social worker…all mandated reporters. Did anyone say anything? Nope.

Okay, but…as someone who divorced a person of a similar description…and also had to divorce all my friends over it because they refused to believe what I said about him…this is a bigger societal problem. A lot of people refuse to believe that anyone they know is capable of The Worst Stuff.

What do you mean “We do not”??? We absolutely do. We’re doing it right now. Even/especially while the good feds are furloughed. I’m not saying it’s time to sign the blank check for these guys. But it’s time to get over the death of America. It’s done. Let something new be born in its place.

Conformism is a strong cultural force in this country. People really give you the side-eye if you say you didn’t watch the Super Bowl. They don’t really ask why, but if they did, I have a rant for them about consumerism, influence, and tax breaks for the obscenely wealthy. And Trump was there. Ew.

It’s the lot of them, but this guy is actually kinda public enemy #1. He basically wrote Project 2025 to advance Christian Nationalism, and now he’s in a position to drastically reshape the government in the image of a divine-right kingdom.

Did want to elaborate: the forces are propaganda against socialism and communism, built into the cultural hegemony of the owning class. AKA it’s when someone says “but what else is there?” every time people complain about late-stage capitalism.

There are a ton of forces that even educated Americans have to overcome to be able to see the system fully. It happened for my husband after 9/11 because he really dug into the question of “why did this happen?” My brother always knew, but I think I started figuring it out around…Occupy Wall Street?

Not that anyone here needs it…but here’s a quick reminder. When anyone says the “radical left” is doing something, and they clearly mean “the Democrats,” you are not hearing from a serious person. This country has NO radical left representation in its government. I’m looking at you, hud dot gov.

This is how it works everywhere, though. You don’t even have to have the money. You can get out of sentences for sex crimes simply by being the kind of person (white, male, well-educated, “earnest”) that society thinks might have money someday.
