Reminder that it is in your power to make a very good loaf of bread, significantly better than the stuff most supermarkets in the US sell, it’s actually really easy and low hassle!
A freshly baked loaf of bread, pepper with black sesame seeds, cooling on a rack. (Almost) No-Knead Bread from the NYT 3 cups flour 1/4 tsp instant yeast 1 and 1/4 tsp salt 1.5 cups water Mix, cover Uncovered and fold into itself a few times at 30 min., one hour, one hour thirty, recover each time, leave in warm place Start checking at 12 hours for dough doubling Turn out, fold into boule, rest 30 min. While resting, preheat oven to 500°, put scant iron pot generously dusted w/flour to preheat 30 min. Turn boule into pot, cut top, cover with lid After 15 min., uncover, bake another 15 min. Cool on rack before cutting

More 2025 journal reflection. (Full text in alt description)
In 2025, I endured some of the worst depression and anxiety of my life. I had the first panic attack I can remember and some days where I felt so hopeless and paralyzed that I wondered what was the point anymore. But I also know enough to never seek permanent solutions to temporary problems. And those moods, despite feeling all encompassing and eternal when I have them, always pass, like bad weather. I wondered if I would ever feel uncomplicated joy again. And yes, I did. And I will again. I feel it at a loud protest, or when I skate with my friends and master a new trick. I feel it when my puppies rush to greet me when I come home. I feel it when I learn a new skill and I teach it to others. I feel it when I am together with fellow artists, each leaving their own unique print on the world. JOY IS RESISTANCE, TOO. I know 2026 will bring more hard times, but I also know that I'm facing it with everyone else who is fighting for a better world. And we are going to win.

Give yourself something to look forward to next year. Something less substantial than a resolution which can carry regret if you can't stick to it. Think of a book you want to read, a genre of music you'd like to learn more about, a curiosity to chase no matter how trivial. Keep your spark lit.
