Never trust an 'employer' who discourages you from talking to your 'co-workers' even if they are not telling you that explicitly. It is valuable to speak to the people around you about your working conditions, especially if your working conditions are constantly throwing up red flags.

And I really do think that was on purpose. Hive really, really tried to keep artists separated and from talking to each other, even if it meant poisoning our opinions of each other from afar. Isa especially said some pretty awful things to me about @yamino.bsky.social during our kickstarter run and

Go Get a Roomie! was one of the very first webcomic to work with the Hiveworks. In fact, it was in part thanks to GGaR's success that Hiveworks was able to launch as it did! And it was thanks to Hiveworks' help that I could live off ad revenues.
So it was a win-win? Yes and no. 🧵

It's been a long long few years and I am relieved ppl feel they can have the support and speak up against those two ego seeking clout chasers.
I'm happy to see how professional everything turned out, the response is very uplifting at least!

I didn't really get much done today but I have read all of your comments and support!
I will continue to share folks stories about this whole situation as more come out- but also I hope this empowers others to speak up if they find themself in a similar spot.

Thanks to everyone who has supported my peers and I during this whole open letter. I would be lying if I didn't say I was incredibly anxious for this day, but I am so grateful that we did it and that the comics community has this information now.

Hey. You know those cute little crow time comics everyone loves so much? That's Isa. That's who everyone is talking about. I think that needed to be made clear since I noticed some confusion and a lot are actually rather unaware of this fact because she's great at separating herself from this.

I'm glad people are getting the Nix of Nothing books in their hands, I'm very lucky to have them fulfilled. I think getting them in the hands of people who supported the book is most important.

However, I personally have still not been paid from the Kickstarter which was handled by Hiveworks.

i admit it was hard to stay silent with all of these stories haha
But i am so proud of my peers who all pulled through, wrote this letter together, and did what we could to tell our story. Stuff like this is necessary to help protect others !

i cant get over how much they tried to prevent us from talking to each other by making it seem like we were all in competition just like Isa thinks she has to be. The snide comments we got or hearing from other creators what she'd say about me was just freaking wild. unhinged behaviour

It's been a long ten years and I finally get to talk publicly about what happened behind closed doors.

Please take the time to read this letter and please avoid working with these people. You are more valuable than an opportunity for people like them to use you as cash cow for your work. 🧵

Ok I've done a big long writeup on my personal experience with Hiveworks on Tumblr: www.tumblr.com/thephooka/80...

TLDR: If you've ever wondered why I never did a Kickstarter for print or got a Hivemill store up, it's not for lack of trying, at least. But I dodged a bullet anyway.

Oh right, my webcomic also updated today if you wanted to check it out and support it. We don't really make much since leaving Hiveworks, so anything helps!
January 12, 2026 at 10:13 PM
ofc! for now we just have @chimeracomics.bsky.social - we'll probably post about stuff there if we do launch one!
January 12, 2026 at 10:11 PM

If there's one thing comic books has taught me, people will think anything is prestigious. I never in my life would've thought comics or publishing was prestigious until I started hearing about all the scams. People will stand on a rock, call themselves king, and other people believe them.
It was also a vanity project for Isa and Xel too. They wanted the prestige of working in 'publishing' but didn't care a lick about the artists who brought readers in. If you were someone she thought was an artistic threat, Isa would go out of her way to humble you and put you in your place.

On a more positive note, many of the creators from Hiveworks came together to create the Chimera Comics Collective - a place where we could maintain the 'webring' aspect of Hiveworks and continue supporting each other.

Please follow us here! 🦁🐐🐍

I ran Slipshine for over 15 yrs before Hiveworks slipped in & casually & systematically took it from me, during a time when i was undergoing a severe amount of stress, most of it exacerbated by them. In the end, they never did completely acquire my company through entirely legal means.
