Current attitude: This bird.

This was the only time I've successfully photographed a tufted titmouse.

October 2024 at the Ramble in Central Park NYC.

If this doesn't make you cry, you may need some thoughts and prayers.
Alex Pretti’s last words were “are you ok?” said the woman next to him who ICE also pepper sprayed in the face.

Beverly Soon Tofu in Koreatown in L.A.

Not sure it's my favorite but it's my favorite among many other L.A. restaurants that I still know the name of.

There's also a tiny French restaurant in Alhambra in the mid-2000s I really loved. Service was slow and the owners were eccentric but fun.
Sunday night timeline cleanse

please tell me about your favorite lost restaurant (closed for at least 5 years, like I really want you to go back into the vault), why you loved it and what you ate there

Dinner was a garlic rosemary pork loin roast with mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach, with some chocolate muffins as dessert.

Kinda heavy for the night but at least now I won't get blown away by this gust. Thankful the snow squall didn't happen.

Too cold and windy for birds, so it's just another day inside.

I submitted this for a contest last year and didn't win. Might as well share it on a gloomy winter day <3

Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

Worked really hard to lose at Scrabble tonight. Still beat my opponent by 20+ points.

Let's keep these small and meaningful acts of kindness!!!

One way to combat darkness is to be the light ourselves.
Finding Hope: A Story

Ten years ago someone anonymously picked up my husband and my whole tab. We were at a low point because I was out of work and our plans to move were put on hold. But we were checking out neighborhoods for when things turned around.

A willing photography subject:
A downy woodpecker that didn't move an inch for a good minute or two.

Probably because it's only 20F this morning.

This was my last sighting of a tufted titmouse on New Year's Eve. When will it come back? :(

We have to practice solidarity. We have to recognize when we're being played and used, and what makes us strong and what makes us weak. Empires are always trying, *inside and outside*, to make the very people they oppress and threaten complicit in their evils and dependent on their structures.

Found it on p.438: web.english.upenn.edu/~cavitch/pdf...

Actual quote: "In the artist of all kinds I think one can detect an inherent dilemma, which belongs to the co-existence of two trends, the urgent need to communicate and the still more urgent need not to be found."

Where did Winnicott write or say that "artists are people driven by the tension between the desire to communicate and the desire to hide"?

I like it.

Applicable to all forms of craft, including when your chosen profession is already a craft.

Perhaps the demon is that who encourages one to go from doing something well in their profession to becoming an influencer (?)
A demon will come into your head and tell you that if you just get a little better you can make a lot of money doing that craft and that is the DEFINITION of temptation. Do not do it. Keep it for yourself. Protect it with your life. Because it is, in all actuality, protecting your life in return.

I had no idea what a many-colored rush tyrant looked like but the #BirbFest2026 prompt called for one on Day 2. (I know this is the 3rd day of the year and my 1st bird.)

It's fun even if it's not accurate on a postcard-size paper. 😀
