Oponskoyan Hunter-Killer Chimeras

OSDEF doctrine heavily emphasizes the erosion of enemy capabilities at minimal risk before combat is enjoined, whether through attacks on enemy supply lines or undermining enemy morale. It's the latter that produces some of the Directorate's most infamous weapons - those designed to spread terror and demoralize enemy forces, which have proven their effectiveness against poorly-motivated Elysian forces in conflicts like the Kitezh War.

Of these "terror weapons," the hunter-killer chimera is the most infamous.

Like any chimera, a hunter-killer is a tailor-designed organism assembled out of cultured tissues and synthetic and mechanical parts - a real-life Frankenstein's monster. Approximate the size and shape of a leopard (though it also attracts comparison to certain insects and reptiles), the hunter-killer is a chimera designed to operate independently, infiltrating enemy positions with its integrated thermoptic camouflage, exothermic metabolism, and inhuman patience - then opportunistically picking off enemy soldiers wherever it can.

As most of the hunter-killer is composed of synthetic parts that do not require oxygen, it only needs to breathe approximately once a week - refilling its internal stores. It's intelligent (and "programmed" well enough) to siphon air from enemy EVA suits, spare air tanks, and pressurized interiors, allowing it to operate in vacuum and hostile atmospheres. Its slow (yet capable of extraordinary bursts) metabolism allows it to survive on only one meal per month, as many reptiles do.

Despite all this, the actual number of casualties inflicted by hunter-killers is minimal - certainly less cost-effective than cheaper, simpler conventional weapons. But the true value of the hunter-killer isn't its impact on enemy numbers - it's the chimera's mere existence's impact on morale.

Hunter-killers only need to occasionally pick off enemy soldiers to remind the rest that they exist, and humans are not particularly rational creatures. Soldiers stay up all night, wondering if the strange noises they heard are a hunter-killer lurking in the vents, waiting until they fall asleep - even though, the vast majority of the time, there's nothing there. They miss a squadmate at mess hall and wonder if a hunter-killer "got" them. They panic when a light goes out unexpectedly and begin firing at nothing.

That's the true value of hunter-killers - a few dozen can ruin the morale of an entire army.

The Senate has just passed the military NDAA containing 2 anti-trans provisions: a surgery ban using federal funds (dependents too), and a sports ban on military academy spaces.

This will be the STARTING point for negotiations with the House, which has even worse provisions.
