Periodic reminder: if you think I'm flirting with you, you're mistaken. I'm aroace and also married. If I wanted a partner my wife is *right there*. I have zero interest in any more such attachments. I'm just trying to be companiable and supportive to people I like. My jam is 100% platonic.
We need to find out who's really issuing these pardons, because Trump doesn't even know these people and for once I believe him. He's just the autopen ... but for whom?

If you're going to participate in Black Friday, at least remember which companies to boycott. Amazon heads the list, but also any other company that has bribed Trump (all of Big Tech), abandoned DEI (Target), hosted ICE (Home Depot), busted unions (Starbucks), and so on. Don't fund fascism.

Uh oh. I'm starting to get a bunch of programming stuff in my feed. Y'all, I left that shit for a reason and don't intend to go back. If I want to see people talking about it I can go to Mastodon. Can we have a "less like this" that *actually fucking does something* please?

This made me laugh so hard I cried. His *utter fail* at the end especially. 🤣

If you claim to be an urbanist but most of your posts are fluffing developers, you shouldn't be surprised when people comment on the odor of astroturf.

Today's #pickleball report: crazy plays. First game I won a point with the last two hits from my knees, one a dink and the other a cross-court speed-up. Really. I have long arms. Second game I had a ball go over the net with enough spin and bounce to come back without being touched. Point for us. 😲

Five mice in two days. A new record, and could still increase.
November 25, 2025 at 3:14 PM
As happens every spring and fall, we've had a series of mice going after a particular spot in the kitchen. The latest one was especially clever, repeatedly cleaning the trap without triggering it. Today I noticed it had happened again, in the middle of the day. 🤬 (1/2)

Today's new-recipe pizza was a mixed success. It was pizza, not glop or cardboard, so that's a win. Reasonably tasty. OTOH it was the *ugliest* pizza I've ever seen, and still a loftier crust than I was hoping for. I still have 1/3 of the dough, so tomorrow I might try again with a few tweaks.

Trying to juggle email/texts about the family reunion next month, holiday-break travel plans for the kids, and organizational stuff for the local pickleball club. Almost feels like I'm working again.

I'm thinking of an experiment. I've been spending too much time online (here + Threads + Mastodon + Tumblr) while my journal lies forlorn and empty. So, new rule: I can't post any serious original thoughts online - quick reposts and shitposts OK - until I've written there first. Starting tomorrow. 🫠

At the doctor's office. I like this version.

I know there are things about him that are worse, but the way Trump has to put his name on everything, have it attached to every bit of good-ish news (even if fake or stolen) just gives me the ick. The best thing we can do after he's gone is replace every instance of his name with That Weak Shit.

It gets difficult to use my main laptop when the touchpad seems persistently confused about how many fingers are touching it. Seems to happen a lot right after a workout. Weird.

Today's #running report: grit. Colder than I thought it would be, and I caught a bit of graupel around the half-way point. Flatter than average course, so managed to knock another 34s off my recent times. It'll do.

Interesting piece. Not as lurid as you might think. Before you read it, ask yourself why most of these people have little or no social-media presence. It's because they see communication as currency, and want to hoard it.

My own Detroit style pizza recipe is based on J Kenji Lopez-Alt's. It's great, but the lofty almost foccacia-like crust is not always what I'm in the mood for. So today/tomorrow (I say both because the dough has to rise for a long time) I'll try another of his.

Threads is abuzz with talk about the X location feature that revealed many MAGA accounts really based in Russia or Macedonia. DHS "official" account is run from Tel Aviv. Surprisingly, next to nothing about it here. Our federal agencies are already captured. Congress needs to subpoena those records.

The cranberry-curd cheesecake was a mixed success. The curd part was surprisingly *not* tart or cranberry-flavored. It was still delicious, but mostly because of the crust and cheesecake parts. Need to figure out how to get more cranberry flavor in there.

Any top-tier NCAA football team that schedules patsies in the last few games of the season should be automatically excluded from the playoffs. That's an unreasonable level of gaming the rankings.

I just made a variant of my "famous" lemon-curd-topped cheesecake, only this time it's cranberry curd. Bit of experimentation necessary here. So far it seems to be setting OK, but we'll see in a couple of hours. If it works, I'll make another to take to the big family gathering in early December.

This is my town, and I have friends whose kids went to this school. We're not all of the same mind politically, way too many Progressives In Name Only, but I can guarantee this creep isn't being invited to many holiday parties. I feel bad for the kid, though.
