Haven’t seen satire this oddball and biting since Gilliam’s Brazil - the second vignette is gonna hit a lot of people really hard, but draws blood with its portrayal of the US school system; sadly, the movie also comes with pacing issues and a third act that turns into a series of exposition dumps

This might be Criterion’s worst designed box. There’s no way to comfortably remove the discs without feeling like you’re scratching and tearing them from the tiny opening.

An insanely beautiful period epic in the same vein as The Red Shoes and Farewell My Concubine. The period accurate sets were gorgeous, the performances were nuanced and riveting, and the editing had a style and pacing that perfectly synthesized the art of kabuki theater with film.

No Other Choice was pretty great. That finale hit real hard. It also has some of the coolest superimposed transitions this side of Nutcracker Fantasy.
