This program of study is provided for students who intend to embark on a career in the maritime industry as Marine Engineer Officers on commercial vessels.It provides the knowledge and skills required to safely manage, facilitate, and undertake operation and maintenance linked to the shipboard marine engineering systems. Course content includes marine engineering and systems, vessel structure and operations, cargo and passenger transport, vessel management, marine legislation, marine survey and shipboard safety.The program is designed to integrate with professional short courses and training at sea so that successful students will not only obtain an Advanced Diploma or bachelor degree but also an Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) Certificate of Competency. The program is fully compliant with the training and educational requirements of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), 2010 as amended. This two-part webinar series will explore the key research findings and management implications from Lenfest Ocean Program’s ‘Managing Protected Areas in a Changing Ocean’ portfolio. Climate-driven changes are causing significant shifts in marine ecosystems, threatening key habitats and species that people around the world depend on for food security, livelihoods, and cultural wellbeing. While many countries have designated Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), managers are asking for help to grapple with how to adapt to a changing climate and ensure MPA resilience. In response to this need, in July 2023, the Lenfest Ocean Program launched a series of projects in its “Managing Protected Areas in a Changing Ocean” portfolio. In this second session of the series, speakers will share local and regional case studies from Japan, Baja California, Kenya, and Indonesia to showcase new and different approaches to managing MPAs through a climate lens.
