Final Fantasy XIV rubs me the wrong way in a way I've never been able to understand. Which is odd, since I'm a big Final Fantasy and online RPG fan.

@pitohui.org joins me in a (hopefully) series of podcasts to find some closure after over a decade of frustration.

For sure! That will be on the next episode. Plan to record soon, though October is busy for me so not sure when it'll actually come out yet.

Weirdly enough I was working at Wendys and a woman came in and opened her shirt at the register and out came a bird.

She made the shush motion, laughed, and put it back in then ordered her food.

I appreciate your thoughts! I recorded this about a month ago, and essentially put a full month into it. I think things are going really well so far.

I do have some grief about how they scale content, but at this point in the game for me that doesn't really matter. Though might be later lol.

🚨BREAKING NEWS🚨

The Hudson bee in a cowboy hat still exists & is still good after all these years

You can look at him in the image below👇

Weirdly enough I met an old coworker of yours who came to speak at my college's journalism class.

Unfortunately this was like 10 years ago so I dont remember who he was but wonder if I dug up some old school notes if id find it lol

Yeah I think I have such a history of doing so much all at once, that it's hard to know what is OK to let slide or not.

I definitely think I've gotten a lot better, but there are still moments where I feel guilty.

I wonder if the answer for me is taking those feelings and contextualizing them?
oculin.bsky.social
I appreciate it! I think I agree with most of the things you said and I've also done a lot of that too through therapy thankfully.

But yeah it's like rewiring my brain at 35 years old, which feels tough lol. But I do believe it's possible.

Not that external stress will never be a part of my life, but I don't necessarily need to create a bunch of it just to whip myself basically lol.
oculin.bsky.social
Kind of all 3 lol. I've been trying to remove all of those feelings from my life, but it's also like how I've operated for so long it can feel challenging to know how to operate without it lol.

A huge part of my therapy lately has been trying to remove self guilt and creating false external pressures to push forward.

If you've struggled with this before, what do you think were the best ways to help adapt your motivation?

Pachio-kun spread its wings to other communities lol.

One day we will all know and love PC-FX Pachinko.

Who better to discuss the current pushback against NSFW content than a plucky doujin group making an R18 Breakout clone starring an anthro computer? @john.gamesline.net spoke to Demuresoft about their work ethic and why they continue to create in today's climate. gamesline.net/demure-douji...

Yeah, I can understand that. I'm usually pretty open to everyone, but there have been a few rare cases when I've really had to basically disengage with someone as much as possible because it was really impacting me.

But I'd imagine it's hard to escape when you're in these more niche spaces.
oculin.bsky.social
Sounds like there's a lot going on there, so I think I'll take a step back from that one, but I appreciate you sharing your thoughts.
oculin.bsky.social
I hope it was helpful! I know it can come off as like painfully positive sometimes lol but I do believe most people want to grow and do good work.

I'm kind of talking out of a place of ignorance here, but hopefully this conversation gets closer to the issue here.
oculin.bsky.social
So absolutely we should all strive to be better and idk the past history with TE drama, but I also sympathize that it's easy to blame someone individually for what I believe is a failure of our systems at times.
oculin.bsky.social
I don't know everyone's motivations, but I don't think you get into this stuff unless you really care about video games.

I wish I weren't so pessimistic about the state of game journalism, but part of my belief is that there are very few support systems to give clear answers on best practices.
oculin.bsky.social
I haven't checked people's credentials here or anything, but from what I do remember from my old crusty journalism brain, this does all sound like really sound advice. IMO take a step back for now and think about it.

Nothing wrong with taking your time to see what might be valuable or not.
oculin.bsky.social
I really appreciate it! I haven't done any formal news coverage in a long time, but whenever I did gaming coverage, it was always in the traditional "blog about press release" format.

It's nice to hear what a more proper set of requirements would be.
oculin.bsky.social
That's a great point. Slanted language, especially if a story is covered more one-sided, can become a really tricky beast.

I can't recall if there were any specific courses about that in my college journalism courses, but I imagine there was probably a section on neutral statements at least.
oculin.bsky.social
Do you have any resources or subject matter experts that you think would be good for contacting? No biggie if not especially since I'm not involved lol.

But was trying to think of what the best approach would be to verify or officially condone a perspective like that in an article.
