Before the octagonal stop sign was introduced, stop signs were round. And this symbolised, just like the modern octagonal stop sign, the number of years of imprisonment someone would receive if they ignored the stop sign.

The GDR in all its glory with Berliner Fernsehturm, the Interhotel Stadt Berlin and Palast der Republik. Three striking and prestigious buildings in Berlin commissioned by the GDR. All three buildings were built in the same period from the late 1960s to the early 1970s, with the modern and futuristic design standing out. The Palast der Republik was demolished from 2006 to 2008. On this site now stands the Berliner Schloß. The Interhotel Stadt Berlin is still in use as a hotel under a different name: Park Inn Hotel. The Berliner Fernsehturm has gone from being a national symbol of the GDR to a symbol of the reunification of West and East Berlin and one of Berlin's most important landmarks.

For over fifteen years, Thomas Hausstein had a photography store in Berlin-Friedrichshain with its own black and white workshop and photo studio. Thomas was responsible for wedding photography and took portraits. When not in the shop, Thomas was riding his motorcycle across the country or taking photos in the city of Berlin. The store was a warm meeting point for photography enthusiasts and passport photo customers. In 2017, Thomas Hausstein closed his business because he felt that the store entailed too many responsibilities and too little fun with photography. Today in his spare time Thomas manages to enjoy photography again.
