I think we have more than enough in our squad to mount a serious challenge. We need to improve the away form quickly but we have a much more settled and balanced starting 11 now.

50 years ago yesterday, Notts pulled off one of the greatest results in our history knocking the mighty Leeds out of the League Cup. It was a night when the chant ‘Super Notts’ was born. Did you go to the game? What are your memories of that night? I’d love to hear from those who were there.

I definitely think so. He built a squad capable of challenging for promotion in 6 consecutive seasons. We fell well short in one of those seasons but I think that was far more down to LW leaving than anything else. He helped persuade some cracking players to come to us too.

I don’t actually know what my first Notts game was and I don’t think I’ll ever find out. I was about 3 or 4 and my main memory was sitting on the wall at the front of what I believe would have been the County Road stand, drinking pop. I always had it in my head that we won 3-0 but I can’t be sure.

I agree. I think I might set up a new account on here where we can share our memories of iconic matches and moments in Notts’ history. I’d love to hear people passing on their memories of matches that were before my time and others I was lucky enough to experience too.

I think it looks like a 9 although I suppose it could be an 8 or even a 6! The hairstyle definitely looks more Lawton-like to me but I can’t say it’s him with absolute certainty.
