This is honestly the stupidest thing I've heard in a long time- banning the use of the words burger & sausage on plant based products.

"No recollection or records" now vaults over "on mature recollection" to the top of the phrases-that-sank-an-Irish-Presidential-election-campaign charts. In both cases a considered "recollection" proved to be in contradiction with the truth and sank a @fiannafailparty.bsky.social candidate.

Sally Rooney won’t be 35 until February. But can we elect her President in October, let the presidential commission do the job for a few months and have her inauguration on her birthday? You have to be 35 to be President but do you have to be 35 to be elected? www.irishtimes.com/culture/book...

We now have ESBN & GNI on record that they can't prevent data centre connections. Upshot is no limits on data centres outside of Dublin + expansion of sites in Dublin - skyrocketing demand, impacts on housing, higher costs, gas dependency & emissions. Urgent need for legislative + policy change!

This decision by the EU shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that has been paying attention to water quality.

What should come as a surprise is that to date the Government has no contingency plan in place for any loss or major revision of the derogation.

📆Today is the EU deadline for Social Climate Plans.
In Ireland:
❌ No plan published
❌ No public consultation
These plans are needed to access EU funding to help with heating & transport costs, especially for lower-income households.

What to make of the fact that the sockets at the #NED25 aren’t connected to any power supply 😬? Our infrastructural deficit is getting out of hand altogether 😛.

Good to hear @micheal-martin.bsky.social at #NED25 reiterate the “existential challenge of climate change”, the growing threat from storms like Eowyn, and commit to accelerate #ClimateAction, “doing more and faster”.
But we haven’t seen decisions and delivery to match that rhetoric so far.

Useful summary by Prof @hannahdaly.ie of the shocking and alarming new figures from @epaireland.bsky.social on Ireland’s emissions that stoke climate chaos.
🧵1/
The EPA’s latest GHG projections show Ireland is far off track to meet its legally binding carbon budgets. Even with optimistic assumptions, emissions are projected to fall just 23% by 2030—less than half the 51% target.

He's undone much of the work he'd done to be regarded as serious on climate change. What he does next will determine his legacy.

Mr Foley seems to be saying that a habitable planet for our children is unrealistic and that short term corporate profits and tax revenues are more important: "Climate chaos is a price worth paying for corporate profits".
Mark Foley, former EirGrid CEO said Ireland’s digital sector is facing an “existential crisis” and data centres should connect to the gas network to generate energy on-site without delay.

If only this sector was the only thing facing an existential crisis...
