Sep 1959: Milk ad from Unknown

«'Must drinka pinta' he said»
A black and white image of a truck driver taking a break and enjoying a pint of milk. The advert promotes the benefits of milk for drivers, highlighting its nutritional value and ability to keep the head clear, especially on long trunk runs.

'Must drinka pinta' he said

There'd been mist on the Peak that morning, the
lorry-driver said. Dangerous driving unless you
knew the road. When the mist lifted he and the
man behind him had pulled in at a lay-by. 'As a
matter of fact,' he said, 'I shared my milk with
him. He needed it, poor devil. He had three
back-seat drivers in the car with him.'
You'll find that lorry-drivers speak of milk
respectfully. As an occupational food. Milk's a
meal in itself, they tell you. Easy to digest. Kills
the fumes. Keeps your head clear. 'Oh, yes. You
have to have milk,' they say. 'Especially on the
trunk run.' (That's the night run.)
The lorry-driver lifted his pint glass, and drained
it. 'Don't know what you think these lorries run
on,' he said, 'but I know I drive on milk!'

Oct 1978: Freezers ad from Zanussi

(+Fridge Freezers)

«When your freezer eats less, your family eats more.»
An advertisement promotes Zanussi freezers, highlighting their efficiency and cost-effectiveness. It compares the annual running cost of a Zanussi 7 cu. ft. freezer to a standard model. The advert mentions features such as Roll-bond system and high-density insulation. It offers a guarantee and mentions a network of service agents.

When your freezer eats less, your family eats more.

SUNDAY MIRROR. October 15, 1978 PAGE 31
Secondly, unlike the old serpentine system, Roll-bond allows a Zanussi to have removable drawers.
Which is handy if you want to freeze the odd side of lamb.
And thirdly, it's more reliable because it has fewer joints.
All but the smallest freezers have fitted drawer fronts. So you don't lose all that expensive cold air the moment you open the freezer door.
The drawer fronts, the Roll-bond system and the insulation make for a very efficient freezer.
Because of this a Zanussi motor, which is remarkably frugal with electricity anyway, is only switched on 30% of the time, compared to 45% in less well made freezers.
Which is why they're cheaper to run.
There are fifteen Zanussi freezers and fridge freezers to choose from.
Unlike some fridge freezers ours all have a four star freezer compartment.
Which means you can freeze food from scratch, instead of relying on pre-frozen food all the time.
Every one is covered by a twelve month parts and labour guarantee.
We also offer low cost insurance, to cover you once the guarantee has expired.
And should anything go wrong, we have a network of 103 service agents around the country.
By now, we hope you look upon our freezers and fridge freezers as the most efficient and reliable you can buy.
Should you invest in one, you can be sure it won't eat you out of house and home.
Efficiency and reliability in your kitchen.
With electricity the price it is nowdays you can't afford to plug in a freezer or a fridge freezer and forget about it.
Twenty four hours a day it's consuming money, which could be better spent...
