Great analogy from @spidermaani.bsky.social in today's
Killer Tactics 2 workshop, looking at the commercial determinants of ill-health and the profit-driven companies behind them.

📉A fall in alcohol-specific deaths in Scotland is promising. It shows what's possible with comprehensive action.

The UK Government should follow suit and introduce measures like Minimum Unit Pricing (already in place in Scotland and Wales)

Great to be at @thekingsfund.bsky.social #KFPrevention conference.

So many common barriers to prevention that replicate from the national ➡️ regional ➡️ local level (budget, short-termism, fragmentation, firefighting). But a buzz to get to the solutions & firmly shift from treatment to prevention.

⏰ICYMI: @crukpolicy.bsky.social new report explores young peoples' views on marketing for tobacco, vapes, alcohol & HFSS foods online.

❗Ultimately they're seeing a lot. UK Govt must do more to create an online environment that empowers healthy changes.

Wondering what we think about the 10 Year Health Plan? @crukpolicy.bsky.social’s thoughts ⬇️

On prevention there were some good measures announced, but given what was trailed it could’ve been a lot bolder.

All eyes on the National Cancer Plan now 👀
Yesterday, the UK Government published its 10 Year Health Plan, aiming to reform the NHS over the next decade.

This is a policy @crukpolicy.bsky.social believe all UK nations should have in place to reduce harmful drinking.

Local govt ends up being an area that comes out better than some during the SR:

Average annual increase in spending power of 2.6% per year in real terms between 25/25 and 28/29

Will leave spending power 2.7% lower in real terms than in 2010/11 and 15.9% lower when accounting for population growth

Nice explainer by @nestauk.bsky.social on what prevention actually means 👇
Prevention can be better than cure - especially for tackling obesity.

What does prevention mean in health? Why is it often a cheaper and effective route than treatment? And how can it work beyond the NHS?
