We can turn things around. But it will take serious leadership with the political will to invest in the housing and services we all need. 4 / 5

But today, building that good life is harder than it should be. Vancouver faces serious challenges: crumbling community centres, a housing crisis, and wealth inequality. 3 / 5

My ABC Council colleagues are vocal about pushing back on the Province downloading responsibilities onto the City, but last night they voted to build on public open space to make up for the education funding shortfall, squarely the responsibility of the Province.
Tonight the ABC majority voted to build housing on part of Fleming Elementary’s school grounds saying their hands were tied by Vancouver School Board’s decision to divest school land to build rental housing despite an outcry from the community.

The timing of this video as I’m reflecting on the revolt at City Council against Sim’s budget cuts is just perfect.

Can’t wait to vote against all of ABC.

The 2026 Vancouver budget risks imposing cuts to road safety initiatives that we simply can't afford. With so few details being released, we call upon council to amend the budget to direct that essential transportation programs and staff be protected.

Today we’re listening to staff reports first, then Counillors will have an opportunity to ask questions. Only after Councillors’ questions will we start listening to public speakers.
Tomorrow Vancouver City Council will start hearing from the hundreds of people who have signed up to speak to Council about Ken Sim and ABC’s Zero Means Zero budget.

Despite Ken Sim trying to call our reporting "false" regarding the loss of Vancouver's sustainability department, city staff just confirmed under pressure from council that those jobs are not in fact safe in the budget, as it now stands.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to the over 500 people who have signed up to speak to the budget and push back against Ken's Cuts.

Just 30 minutes left to sign up to oppose this budget.

Ken Sim is trying to gut the city in the hopes that you'll forget his dismal record. We can't let him get away with it.

With everything going on these days, it’s easy to miss when local governments get up to some sketchy stuff.

Take Vancouver, where Mayor Ken Sims is planning to eliminate the city’s sustainability and climate department!!!

Yes, really.

Vancouver has spent decades building up a now well-earned reputation for leadership on environmental sustainability.

Apparently, the mayor and ABC majority don't see the value in it.

Hard to imagine a better way to damage the city's brand.

2023: ABC refunds millions of dollars of Empty Homes Tax to developers

2025: ABC refuses to use EHT money for its intended purpose, putting 81 affordable homes for women and children at risk

What an astonishing decision by Ken Sim and ABC.

You'd think a Councillor with a record of cutting services and delaying action on safe streets would have the decency to at least live -near- the community he's damaging.

He makes the cuts. We'll live with the consequences.

In voting down this motion, Clr Montague indignantly claimed that the VPD "puts out a message telling drivers to avoid non-essential travel every year" and that to suggest otherwise is "outright false." Can anyone find evidence of this? Here's their PSA for this year:

Maybe the reason Brian Montague brought forward the amendment to kill this Halloween safe streets motion is that he's still recovering from the time children "intimidated" him with their climate change art.

The party of public safety, everyone:
Honestly gobsmacked by ABC's referral of my road safety motion to staff.

Halloween is the most dangerous night of the year for CHILDREN.

This was an attempt to use an existing process to keep CHILDREN safe, and ABC punted it to staff w/o offering an alternative.

Really, guys?

Plan to leave your car at home on Halloween Night (this Friday night) between 5.00 pm and 9.00 pm, and if you do need to drive, take it slowly and carefully to help keep children safe on the most dangerous night of the year for child pedestrians.

ABC disregarded reams of formal public feedback received by the City in their Budget Survey.

It's cynical and unserious. And it's insulting to residents and to the staff who put untold hours into analyzing and compiling the Survey results.

Ken Sim and ABC have got to go.
