I can swear that the number of people who use “you’re absolutely right” casually in speech has increased since Claude.

My basic solid queue setup on Rails 8 is using 450MB+ memory. Is that normal?

supervisor: 74MB
dispatcher: 83MB
worker: 159MB
scheduler: 141MB

Every time I think about how bad things are, I imagine how much worse they would be if we lived through the Peloponnesian wars, and I feel better.

I'm trying to change my information diet. Less social media, more long-form reading. I even installed an RSS reader like it's 2015 🎉

My team at Plane is hiring experienced full stack engineers. We use Rails, Postgres, Phlex, Vite, TypeScript and Svelte. I don’t have a full job description yet, but drop me a DM if you want to know more.

Not to be that guy, but the original novels are so much better than the show. There are a lot of layers and depth to the story that are kind of lost on TV.

New: the world of Ruby has gone completely off the rails over the past few weeks. Developers suddenly locked out, corporate pressure, and claims of a "hostile takeover" of one of the most critical pieces of infrastructure for the internet we all rely on everyday

Eloquently put, exactly my sentiment as well. Also thankful for thousands of contributors over two decades that make Rails what it is today.

Thought about this latest Ruby drama a lot. I ❤️ Rails and I’m thankful for it, so by association to DHH even if his political blog posts wind me up. Frankly, what he chooses to write is his business and I don’t think it affects Rails. Don’t read it if it gets you worked up. Life’s too short, srsly.

You have to be able to ignore the parts of a person's identity and focus on the quality their work, if you want to collaborate or get things done. Especially those you disagree with. What constitutes a red-line depends on the individual and the context.

I've always tried to separate the art from the artist, but it has become increasingly difficult in recent years.

Ages ago, when I was still a student, I taught myself Ruby on Rails for my senior thesis and fell in love. Fifteen years later, and I’ve used Rails at every job I’ve ever held in the tech industry. Fifteen years, and I still love Rails! But there’s something rotten at its core, and we share a name.
