COP30 made important strides towards the Global Goal on Adaptation, selecting the voluntary Belém Adaptation Indicators to help countries track adaptation progress. We hope that MPIs will be taken into account when establishing 'the level of population living in poverty' (8a).

When we measure absolute, relative and population-based change in poverty levels, we capture progress across low and high poverty contexts. A recent brief from UNECA uses the global MPI to examine poverty reduction in Africa with these perspectives.

Many South Asian countries have made rapid progress reducing multidimensional poverty, but the global MPI 2025 finds that 99.1% of those left in multidimensionally poverty live in regions exposed to climate hazards.
