At this week's HDCA Conference Sabina Alkire will present on parallels between the Capability Approach & Bhutan’s Gross National Happiness Index. Bangladesh’s new national MPI highlights the lived reality of poverty in the country - for example, nearly three out of ten children (28.9%) are multidimensionally poor, a much higher proportion than adults (21.44%).

Our new briefing explores Bhutan’s Rural Economy Advancement Programme Phase II (2014-18), which used MPI data to identify vulnerable populations & embraced a participatory approach to design poverty interventions in tandem with local communities.

The Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) were large, nationally representative surveys conducted in over 90 lower- and middle-income countries around the world.

They provided core information such as birth and mortality rates, which are otherwise poorly recorded in many countries.
