I’m hoping my body will heal itself but I’m feeling less and leas hopeful.

The one time I met Paul Vallas was at a conference and after a very brief conversation he showed me a plan for a "reform school" project he was pitching.

The man was carrying plans for a jail for children on his person and just...showing it to people.

That guy came really close to being mayor.

Actually, it really matters whether your electeds are progressive. We are often frustrated on the left at what electeds can deliver, but we have to remember moments like this. Paul Vallas would NOT have created ICE free zones.

HAPPENING NOW — This morning, Mayor Brandon Johnson signed an executive order establishing “ICE-free zones.”

“That means that city property and unwilling private businesses will no longer serve as grounds for these raids,” Johnson said to applause.

Yesterday I remembered how I dropped everything in my life and became someone’s chemo buddy. Not because we were particularly close — but because she needed that. I wasn’t raised this way — actually the opposite. But I’ve always filled in the gaps without asking. I thought others did the same.

One was bad. When I found out about the second yesterday in a different part of the country, I was just disgusted. At least one of these races will require at minimum $500K to lose — money that could go to mutual aid, organizing, and work they have promised to do.

So it’s pretty common for job seekers to be ghosted all along the process including after offers.

For me, this has happened twice at different stages of the process by leaders considered important in progressive orgs.

I’ve recently learned both of these “leaders“ are running for elected office.

ok. I’m walking Lizzie. Everything else is off my plate today. It’s all I can do. She’ll be fed and walked.

"The total doesn't include weapons shipments that were never publicly disclosed or that have been pledged, but not yet sent. In 2024, for instance, the Biden administration approved a $20 billion sale of weapons to Israel that would maintain a flow of weapons and military equipment to ... 2029."

The U.S. has spent over $30 billion supporting the Israeli military and conducting war across the Middle East over the first two years of Israel’s genocide in Gaza — a genocide only made possible by the U.S.’s financial support, a new report concludes.
Report: US Spent Over $30B Backing Israel, Regional Wars in 2 Years of Genocide
This is just the “tip of the iceberg,” Costs of War noted, as many other other transfers haven’t been disclosed.

One of the most perverse ideas on the anti-trans side is that trans people are instantly affirmed and celebrated by everyone when they come out and that acceptance is driving a social contagion.

It's the ultimate form of gaslighting against our community.

Pew Survey: Only 31% Of Trans People Report Being Accepted By Their Parents
The survey comes as transgender people experience a legal assault from the far-right in the United States.

Everytime I see a 6-figure job posted I think that half of that would allow me to survive the winter. I’m using the word “allow” purposefully because I feel like I’m in this place where I’m begging people I helped to offer me the chance to live.

Honestly feel lucky that my dental pain is distracting me from my abdominal pain. It’s creating an odd kind of bodily balance I wish I had words for.
organizer.bsky.social
And of course the organizations with incredible amounts of money will be able to buy protection and will also leave people behind. We have already seen this. Orgs selling out trans people, unhoused people, immigrants are not to be trusted. Not who I’m talking to.

And those of us who have been targeted throughout our careers know that there are higher expectations. We aren’t allowed to do the same things cis white men are — that’s an unfortunate truth.
organizer.bsky.social
I have worked w countless c3s over the last 30 years — some will be targeted. Orgs without strong Boards (and that doesn’t mean money), without relationships with peer orgs (I encourage staff at all levels to meet with their peers), and transparent relationships with funders will be at higher risks

Trump is working for a Nobel Peace Prize. He‘s not working to end any “war”

No matter how chaotic he’s the epitome of “personal brands” & is completely disconnected from humanity. (And personal branding is a key component of racial capitalism, requiring people to sell themselves in the marketplac)

Occupation tanks cut off the only coastal road leading to Gaza City!!

-Just to note: Return to the north and border areas will not be permitted until the army begins withdrawing in accordance with the agreement.”

Fundraised for tents locally and globally is a skill most employers are not looking for but I‘ve been thinking about how much time I’ve spent on platforms asking people to contribute to campaigns so people could have the smallest amount of privacy in terrible conditions.

I dream of this one town often.

It feels like I stayed there and left (but I didn’t). I just dreamt I went back and was hanging out at a coffee shop with the workers after close. I said: “I live here now.” And they shared food with me.

I know I don’t belong where I am.

Bluesky has a huge user base - surely we can raise this!

Can you save someone's life by tossing in a few bucks?

Can you share this to get more eyes on it?

Both times I've been homeless I was lucky to have a couch to crash on. Not everyone has that kind of luck.

You can help create that luck.

I have hope NPR affiliates can become relevant without government funding. They have a good funding model. I also think they could build in even more collaborations with small independent local outlets to build a bench of new talent. It’s the first time I’ve felt hopeful about them in over a decade.

I think that’s probably more like a rent to stream but think it exists.

I’m really going to start to organize my thoughts in a single place that isn’t here.

I find half written essays and poems in random notebooks and docs.

This week I realized that new movies come out and you could buy them for like $20 to watch at home. I just hadn’t really thought of it and haven’t been to a theater in many years. But I was hearing about great new movies on a podcast & realized there must be a way to see them. I had no idea.

I barely have contact with people yet the amount of day-to-day ways people are undermining our ability to build a movement is so pervasive. You can’t treat people poorly in their day jobs, in the streets, and online — and then expect to build trust in organizing spaces.
