So, last night I was watching "The Thick of It" and the plot was that one of the politicians needed to resign sooner so he could get back into the public's good graces faster to get his original job back. And it feels like maybe art is imitating life a bit too close here.

Interesting that Amazon has removed the "Didn't arrive in time" reason for requesting a refund on this order.

I feel like we need to institute an "Outrage Tip Jar." Like a swear jar, but if you're angry enough to post a screed about something, you have to donate $1 or volunteer one hour to an organization that's actually doing something about it.

Feel good read of the day, baseball fans!

I loved Banana Ball. This year, they've introduced two new teams, including the Indianapolis Clowns, which turns out to be a very old team. I love a light is being shone on this history!

I just feel there was a real missed opportunity when it was decided not to pronounce it "pu-Y'ALL-up."

all discourse aside, there is one machine with consciousness. it's printers. they are alive and conscious and they hate you and they'd take your arm clean off if you let them. never trust a printer.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

Just finished Miranda Hart's "I Haven't Been Entirely Honest With You," and honestly, copies should be passed out to all humanity. Totally worth tracking down a copy! I got it from the library (then bought it in hardback and audio.)

If the top 100 billionaires each gave a one time contribution of a billion dollars to an endowment for the arts, every performing arts non profit in the country could be substantially funded forever.

And even the bottom billionaire on that list would still be worth over $11 billion.
