As many others have done I have renewed motivation in actively using this site.

I am primarily a natural history/paleo artist creating works that vary from stylized to realistic.

Received the Ceratopsian skull magnets (19 pcs) from Scaled Beast @rubrennanart.bsky.social as an early b-day present for myself.

Our 25 contributing artists have started to receive their personal copies of #MesozoicArtII, the huge and spectacular new #palaeoart-themed @chiffchat.bsky.social book by myself and @sharkbitesteve.bsky.social. Truly the ultimate must-have if you're interested in representations of ancient life :)

Yes, the original GOT dragons were designed with a bird-like sternum in the rough skeletal stage. All subsequent dragon designs are built off this base design/rig (even Caraxes).

A little something arrived in the post today. Actually, it's a pretty sizeable something and hard to do a flip-through with one hand - but you'll hopefully get the gist. I think @Darren Naish and I can feel pretty pleased with how it looks and can't wait for it to be released into the wild!

Stock image sites and reddit are especially bad for labeling highland cattle as yak. I have even seen Muskox and Takin posted as yak.

Not a Yak at all. Doesn't even look like a hybrid Dzo.

I know Gary Gygax put a some of these creatures into his Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual book and gave them names such as Owlbear, Rust Monster, and Bulette.

They are most commonly known as 'chinasaurs'. Very common and cheap toys I think started appearing in the 1960's and produced for decades after.

The first image is a beautiful illustration by the talented artist @orribec.bsky.social. Long ago in ancient northern China, during the Neogene Period. During the dry season, with no trees in sight, a single amebelodontid proboscidean called Platybelodon grangeri is searching hard for a place to

This paper has a lot of nice data that does seem to indicate an overlooked distinctiveness, but to do taxonomic revisions without any genetic data on living species should not be a thing in 2025. Even if a species is so rare that such data is difficult to obtain it would seem better to wait.
