The code for volumetrics as seen in those pre-rendered videos is actually still in the game, and a plugin has been developed by Henry to patch it back in!
Be warned it is INCREDIBLY unperformant, as it's made for SFM rendering.

its getting bad out here folks. the manifest numbers for the sixense builds did not match a chronological order, and now i may have just stumbled upon proof that might suggest the attached dates to said builds arent accurate. i may have to throw everything out. fuck my stupid portal 2 beta fan life

The moment HL3/HLX gets announced there is going be an incredibly annoying set of people who will have replied to every HLX leak with “i’ll believe it’s real when i see it” who will immediately switch to going “a broken clock is right twice a day”
