Defenders suggest he would be better on policy, but especially for a guy who has basically no public service record, there's nothing backing that up except how much you personally trust him. And I think his credibility is kinda shot.

All of his public statements regarding the tattoo were pretty terrible. And someone else pointed this out, but even when he expresses regret for getting the tattoo, he never seems to think it's something people might consider being bad on it's own merits.

This might be because there's a lot bigger ecosystem for science journalism in general, and many science writers have a background in the field they're writing about.

I find it interesting how well she compares to Platner. Both unexperienced candidates, campaigning as an outsider, etc. But she's been walking the walk while Platner (even aside from the Nazi tattoo, which to be clear is disqualifying on its own) has not.

The different interpretations of a text reminds of me of the first time I saw a musical performed with different actors. It was really interesting how non-textual details completely changed the overall feel of the story.

Thank you for the thoughtful repsonse! The hardest part was knowing how to get started. Your advice makes a lot of sense and feels accessible in a way a lot of other stuff didn't.

Do you have any tips/resources for getting better at critical reading or writing in general? Most of my higher education kind of glossed over this part (trusting that the students already knew all this) and I always worry that I'm one of the kids described in these types of pieces.

Everyone remembers the Christ allegory but there are so many weird, interesting ideas in the series that get glossed over (TBF this is mostly on Lewis). The Horse and His Boy is still fun to read (and I like the outsider POV).

Congratulations! This has been the kick I needed to finally order The Tainted Cup. So many people whose tastes overlap with mine had recommended it and I'm excited to read it.

There was an article recently that quoted him saying something along the lines of 'I am not longer taking my son's blood' and I thought 'What a terribly messed up way to treat your kid'
