Visited Runde again today. The Northern Gannets, with their long breeding season, are still around. Decent number of recruits as far as I could judge through the binoculars. Morus bassanus, havsule.

We're getting some cracking photo submissions to the Gulls Eating Stuff project! Here are a few showing gulls predating a coot chick, a vole, a mole (!) and a GBBG that has just killed an adult moorhen. Keep 'em coming! Submit your photos of gulls eating stuff to citsci.org/projects/gul....

Hi - I'd like to share this story of what is happening at NOAA GFDL, where some of my colleagues and I worked until the mass firings at NOAA last week.

"...the birthplace of weather and climate forecasting"
NOAA firings hit the birthplace of weather and climate forecasting
Dismissed researchers were improving severe weather predictions

We have tried to look into the future. @mariusarthun.bsky.social led the efforts. Several from @bjerknes.bsky.social contributed. Frida Cnossen essential in creating the elegant illustrations (e.g. Fig2 below). Barents Sea. Arctic. Sea Ice. Nansen Legacy. doi.org/10.1525/elem...

Knotted wrack Ascophyllum nodosum is called “grisetang” (“pig wrack”) in Norwegian 🐷🌱Channelled wrack, Pelvetia canaliculata, is called “sauetang” («sheep wrack») 🐑🌱 This indicates the historic importance of rockweeds as animal feed. The picture: sheep feeding on “pig wrack” 🌱🐷🐑🌱 #PhycologyFriday
