It’s no accident that foreign streaming services do little to promote Australian music and podcasts to Australians…and it’s no accident that our governments have chosen not to do more to fix it. Local content matters more in the digital age than ever

Why your Spotify Wrapped probably doesn’t have any new Australian music on it
If you don't have Australian artists on your Spotify Wrapped, you're not alone - it's the result of a structural, not individual, problem.

Australia’s social media ban for children may feel like action, but it won’t stop harm online. Poorly targeted, hard to enforce, and politically symbolic, it risks failing the kids it claims to protect, writes @waterfordjack #SocialMedia #ChildSafety #DigitalPolicy #Australia #Regulation #Politics
Why our government protects gambling apps but bans TikTok
Australia’s social media restrictions on children were sold as decisive action on harm. But the policy risks becoming symbolic, unenforceable, and ultimately counterproductive.

Very disappointing the Albanese Govt has refused to accept the full suite of recommendations from the Briggs Review designed to stop the jobs for mates culture in federal politics.

No surprise there is such low trust in politicians!

Communities constantly call for more integrity but are ignored.
‘Patronage, nepotism’: Labor releases damning jobs-for-mates report
Finance Minister Katy Gallagher commissioned the review in early 2023 after the Coalition was accused of stacking dozens of plum positions.

Now it's clear why the Albanese Govt was hiding it for two years.

They are refusing to implement recommendations designed to ensure we have merit-based appointments 🤯

Zhao Leji’s visit should have been about diplomacy and Australia–China relations. Instead, media coverage fixated on security threats and missed the point entirely, writes John Queripel. #China #Australia #Diplomacy #Media #ForeignPolicy
A Chinese visit, a security panic, and a silent media
The visit of China’s third-ranking leader should have prompted serious discussion about diplomacy and economic relations. Instead, Australia’s media fixated on security theatrics and fed a familiar cycle of fear.

Budgets are about priorities. The idea is to tax things you want less of & subsidise things you want more of

In Australia we spend $14 billion per year on fossil fuel subsidies & we are cutting science jobs at CSIRO…

As i said, budgets are about priorities #climate

If the Government's top priority is productivity, slashing the CSIRO budget does not make sense
