Not a fan of freezing nights, but the frosty mornings that follow are beautiful.

Reminds me of a customer new to hearing aids who wanted to use the hearing loop at the theatre but wasn't sure how to connect. He knew he had a T setting though because he kept accidentally connecting to the loop in the building next to his house...which happened to be a crematorium!

Couldn't sleep last night so I binged Normal People (BBC iPlayer) for the first time and I don't think I'll ever be the same.

Just saw Nosferatu (2024). Excellent homage to classic vampire movies. Bill Skarsgard portrays Count Orlok with shades of Nandor the Relentless from What We Do in the Shadows (another excellent homage to vampire movies).

Would love that, yes please

First book finished in 2025: Into the Uncanny by @dannyrobins.bsky.social. Funny, engaging, scary: everything you expect from the podcast, but in a book. Almost makes up for me missing Uncanny Con a few weeks ago after I was struck down by a dodgy pub dinner.

Another Substack from me, this time about my relationship with Sherlock Holmes Christmas story 'The Blue Carbuncle.'

Happy Blue Carbuncle Day to all who celebrate. I'm trying to write a Substack about my love for the Granada version. I have too much to say so it's taking a while to edit.

Back at work, thinking of the excellent books I received for Christmas, wishing I was with them in an armchair in front of a warm fire...

Shallow Graves by Ray Fysh

The Hangman's Scrapbook by Neil R Storey

Into the Uncanny by Danny Robins

My friends know me well.

The major problem of too-much-cake in the evening is my over-40 body cannot function on sugar overload. I will not sleep tonight...and I will have a cake hangover in the morning.

Keep getting pulled into random rooms backstage at work today to be given sweets and cake. So sick. I. Can't. Say. No. To. Cake.

Mysterious housemate, not seen for 5 months, did a midnight visit to retrieve clothes that have been on a rack in the hall for the length of her absence. Our house: my home, her very expensive storage unit. Sharing in London with strangers is always perplexing.

Just back from a teacher friend's school concert. The kids played Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, and Stevie Nicks. Felt like a 90s indie disco, I loved it.

A day off today to wrap presents, attend a friend's concert, and nurse my growing anxiety around potential homelessness in the new year. Classic Christmas Season when odd-jobbing in London for survival.

Is this a London problem or is this everywhere? I was just followed and harassed by a man as I was exiting the Victoria Line at King's Cross St Pancras. He kept getting close to me shouting 'are you the police?' then throwing liquid from a bottle at me. Told him firmly to go away, he would not. /1
