On 8 December 1938, Himmler issued the 'Decree for Combating the Gypsy Plague'. Amongst other actions, it ordered the creation of a nationwide list of all Roma in the Reich.

This database would later be used to round up Roma and put them in forced labour and concentration camps... buff.ly/MPd2rT1

These labels translate to say Do not buy from Jews. Whilst their exact provenance is unknown, it is likely that these labels were handed out to encourage the boycott of Jewish shops and businesses.

During the Second World War, Dr. Summerskill, Labour MP for Fulham West, founded the Women's Home Defence organisation June 1940. Initially & strenuously rejected by the War Office, which deemed it socially unacceptable for women to train with firearms.
There were approximately 250 WHD units

Hollywood Caravan to Spain, parked on Hollywood Boulevard. 18 Sept 1937. After touring the US to raise funds to “help the defenders of Spanish democracy” as it says on the side, then it was sent to Spain. Many of those involved with the ambulance were later investigated under McCarthyism

#OtD 1 Dec 1921 striking workers at Castleconnell fisheries in Ireland occupied their workplace and declared a soviet (workers' council). It ended on Dec 22 after the boss agreed to arbitration, which later ruled in favour of the workers. Learn more: stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/8057...
