Dodgers right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto just threw the first complete game in the postseason in eight years. The last one: Justin Verlander on this very day in 2017 in Game 2 of the ALCS. After a leadoff home run, Yamamoto was near-perfect, and the Dodgers now lead the NLCS, 2-0.

Albert, 44, served as hitting coach for the St. Louis Cardinals and joined the Mets in 2022. New York’s farm system is teeming with good young bats, and the plan is to have Albert run hitting at the major league level and complement him with another hitting coach, sources said.

Over his last two playoff starts, Blake Snell has thrown 14 innings, allowed two hits and struck out 19. He made the Phillies (eighth in MLB in runs scored) and Brewers (third) look positively feckless. When Snell is on, there are few better. A tremendous performance in Game 1.

Seattle takes a commanding 2-0 lead in the ALCS and will head home with an opportunity to clinch its first World Series berth. Jorge Polanco’s go-ahead three-run homer paced the Mariners, and their bullpen threw six brilliant shutout innings.
