There's nothing more frustrating than well-meaning people stating the need for immediate peace and "listening to Russia's concerns" when the Russian government's concern is, unequivocally, to undo 80 years of (erratic) progress towards universal human rights and a rules based international order.

I went to the pub last night and found a little guy. When he left the pub I started beating him. However, he is stronger than expected and I can't finish him off. So I now offer to stop attacking him but only if he agrees to become even weaker in the future.

Poland wanted to join NATO because after 250 years they fancied a break from Russian colonial oppression. One might imagine this would resonate in Ireland but once again an Irish president is elected who condemns Poland as an imperialist warmonger for precisely that aspiration.
