If you are a foreign president who commits crimes overseas, America will come get you, arrest you, and lock you up.

But if you are a US president who commits crimes here in the United States, America will give you immunity from prosecution, reelect you, and bribe you with billions of dollars.

This NPR piece on a “healing farm” for addiction recovery is genuinely beautiful; community, dignity, animals.

Which is why I’m already worried. In the U.S., anything that works eventually gets swallowed by private equity and turned into a billing machine.

Healing shouldn’t be an asset class.

A 50-year mortgage isn’t innovation it’s indentured servitude with paperwork. The bank gets your money for half a century, and by the time it’s “yours,” your grandkids are just inheriting the debt. You won’t own your home the bank will own your life.

Dick Cheney’s gone. The world’s not poorer for it. Some people leave behind legacies of kindness or progress, he left behind war crimes and a generation of suffering.

But they won’t. They’ll send another fundraising email, host another donor dinner, and talk about “protecting democracy” while doing absolutely nothing to build it.

They should be out there feeding people, handing out voter registration forms with every bag of groceries, and finding candidates to run for every city council seat, school board, and county office in the country.

If the Democrats had a shred of sense, or a backbone, they’d be setting up food banks in every county in America right now. SNAP runs out of funding next month and millions of people are about to go hungry. That should be their line in the sand.
