It's basically the same set up we had on the farm.

I loved our hydro presses!
paulafleming5.bsky.social
It doesn't look appetising I grant you, but look at the colour of the tickled pink apple pulp before pressing. 🍎

I didn't take a picture of the juice but you can imagine how red that was. 🍷

To be honest, I have loved this year. What a challenge. I am ready for a break though!

All the dates went out of the window this year...apart from Medlars. They seem to be behaving. 😄

I intended to take a photo of every variety but the harvest has been so early and there's been so much I haven't had time

Probably the best smelling trailer in the world....ever!

The Quince harvest is in. We have Champion and Portugal and it's about 220kg!

Red falstaff and Granny smith apples are there too.

Hiding underneath we have Christmas Pearmain, Orleans reinette and Chivers delight.

Hi. No, this apple is Bramley but it can happen with any apple. It's a physiological response.
paulafleming5.bsky.social
Absolutely no idea! 🤔😊
paulafleming5.bsky.social
It can be seen from the outside like in the first picture but if this was a red apple it wouldn't be so easy.

It won't store well but you can still eat it, it will just be a bit different to the others!
paulafleming5.bsky.social
I find it interesting because it's usually linked to weather or lack of nutrient uptake (it's probably both!). But it's strange how you don't find a whole tree with it, just one or two apples.
paulafleming5.bsky.social
Basically, lots of sorbitol has flooded the apple and the apple can't deal with it quick enough. The apples metabolism is a bit like mine!! 😂

This Bramley has watercore. The flesh goes translucent and is very sweet and watery...not what you usually associate with a Bramley!

We wouldn't generally want this in the UK but in places such as Japan, they market this as special. Particularly with their Fuji apples.

We don't seem to get it. We have two varieties, they are Portugal and Champion.

The Quince are absolutely stunning this year, a bit small but stunning nonetheless!

A few splits but so far so good! As with everything else they're early this year and will be ready in a few days!

This week I had the pleasure of visiting Coton orchard @BonkersBusway and doing a talk for Coton garden club on growing fruit trees organically and working with nature.

I can't possibly fit what I want to say in a smaller post.

Rosette is a lovely apple. If I had my own orchard I would definitely put Rosette in!
paulafleming5.bsky.social
Yes, first pick of Pitmaston. A little yellow ingesterie too.
paulafleming5.bsky.social
And more if feeling lazy! I wouldn't be without one!
paulafleming5.bsky.social
Some of our heritage fruit varieties. I love picking over these trees and seeing all the colours and differences.

It's a happy picking bucket!
paulafleming5.bsky.social
Makes a lovely juice too!
paulafleming5.bsky.social
Everything is just so early this year it's hard to keep up with so many varieties but, it's an enjoyable challenge!!

On a side note, does anyone know anywhere we can get more of these crates???
